MSS Capital and Grisons Peak announce joint venture (12 May 2011)

12 May 2011 - Independent city advisors, Grisons Peak LLP and MSS Capital Ltd, have announced the launch of a joint venture focusing on the growing needs of alpha-seeking institutional investors for managed accounts.

The joint venture, GP MSS Solutions, will deliver bespoke managed account services and platform integration for institutions investing in the hedge fund and alternative investment space, together with advisory services on risk management and governance.

It launches against a backdrop of institutions showing renewed confidence in alternative investments, such as hedge funds and fund of hedge funds, but demanding greater control of and insight into their investment capital allocations in the post-Madoff world.

This has led to a surge in demand for managed accounts and platforms within the hedge fund space with additional insight into a fund’s activities, holdings and their assets. GP MSS Solutions is well placed to deliver to this growing need by bringing together the expertise, product range and distribution capabilities of two of the city’s most experienced investment, management and advisory teams.

Managed accounts are now increasingly an option for investors under pressure from their own stakeholders to demonstrate they are doing all they can to minimise the risks of factors such as fraud or illiquidity.

Since 2004, managed account usage has nearly tripled, with over 85 per cent of hedge fund managers seeing an increase in requests for managed account structures.

GP MSS Solutions will deliver platforms to meet this demand for leading service providers (administrators & custodians), liquidity, transparency, governance and risk management and to meet regulatory requirements, including MiFID and the Basel accords.

MSS Capital will provide in-depth consulting, advising and construction support through its consulting company, MSS Consultancy Solutions LLP to projects relating to risk management, governance, managed account infrastructure and platform integration/fund management.

The JV will be jointly led by CEOs Simon Hookway of MSS Capital Ltd and Henry Tillman of Grisons Peak LLP.

Henry Tillman, CEO, Grisons Peak said: “This is the right solution at the right time for our clients and I am delighted to be working with a team with an outstanding pedigree and to bring those services to support larger institutions with significant assets under management or administration.

"Our joint offering will deliver increased transparency and satisfies the new regulatory requirements, as well as giving large transaction banks as well as traditional and alternative asset managers control and the ability to monitor their activity, and, importantly, to increase their operating margins."
